“In recruiting and hiring LCCs, I look for a passion for cultural exchange, good organizational and "people" skills and a desire to make a difference in the community. One must believe in the au pair concept 100% and find the balance of affordable, flexible childcare and the cultural exchange experience.”
How did you first become involved with Cultural Care Au Pair?I first heard about Cultural Care Au Pair when I became pregnant with my first child in 1992. I believed in the concept of cultural exchange and knew that as a high powered executive, I wanted to be the best at my two jobs- motherhood and the corporate world! Cultural Care Au Pair had a wonderful reputation as being one of the forces in the northeast market. When I inquired further about being a host family, I learned that there were not many host families in my area. That is when I realized that I could combine my marketing and organizational skills to grow my local area. I quickly learned that Cultural Care Au Pair had a great deal to offer in the way of support for both host families and au pairs. I became and LCC and a host family almost at the same time.
My group started very small but within a year, I had 6 to 7 new families. That is when the fever struck! I soon learned that I enjoyed being an LCC almost more than a career I had worked so hard to attain. I loved the monthly meetings, all the planning, meeting new au pairs and I really felt like I had become a leader in my community. Before long, many years had gone by and I had a group of 35! Being an LCC allowed me to "travel the world" with new colleagues who fast became cherished friends. I continued to offer my services in a variety of capacities and started to be an LCC recruiter and trainer, thus utilizing my many years of University teaching. The difference was, I got to teach about Cultural Care Au Pair, something I had become so passionate about. I am now a regional development coordinator working with many different LCCs and host families in the East.
What makes Cultural Care Au Pair a great choice for host families and local childcare coordinators? There are many reasons that have made Cultural Care Au Pair, the number one choice in au pair programs. First and foremost, it is their experience as a leading provider. In my experience, there is no agency that holds themselves any higher in their quest to be the best in the field. From the school to the overseas offices to the high quality materials to the au pair supply and, finally, the staff, Cultural Care Au Pair sets the bar at a new level. There is no room for mediocrity, and this is evident in all aspects of company policy. It is also, on may levels, still a "family" run organization. I have never felt, either as a host family or an LCC, that I was "just a number".
What has been one of the greatest benefits to you from working with Cultural Care Au Pair? One of the greatest benefits of becoming an LCC is the amazing people I have worked with over the years. The number of individuals with more than 5 years of service is amazing for any position. The LCCs I know are dedicated, committed, hardworking, fun loving and enjoy the personal satisfaction of the impact they make on each and every host family and au pair. No au pair year is the same, just as no au pair is the same. The young men and women who leave their home and families put faith in the name and quality of Cultural Care Au Pair. Ultimately, it is the LCC who represents the program on a day to day basis. Making that dream a reality and helping a young person to grow in ways they never imagined possible is a feeling that every successful LCC knows. It is a common bond that unites each of them and is an experience that I know to be priceless.
