The McPherson Family, New York
Ryan and his wife Alexandra have one daughter, Jasmine, 24 months. They welcomed Polish au pair Magda Dros into their home in August 2004.
Host dad Ryan says,“A lot of my friends and colleagues are surprised that we have an au pair because they think it’s expensive. But, once they learn how much it costs and see how Magda interacts with Jasmine, their interest grows. Now a lot of them host au pairs too.”
What is your family’s schedule like with your au pair, Magda?
8:00AM : Jaz wakes up. Magda fixes breakfast and gets her dressed.
9:00-11:00AM : Jaz and Magda go for a walk or play outside.
11:00AM : Jaz down for nap. Magda does a load of her laundry, makes lunch.
12:30PM : Magda and Jaz visit the library, go next door to see a 2-year-old playmate or walk to the park.
3:30PM : Jaz and Magda read, play games and enjoy other activities.
5:00PM : Magda starts dinner for Jaz and helps with bedtime.
Sample weekend schedule:
Weekends are all different. We love spending time outdoors, entertaining friends and going into the city to see a show. It’s also a time to catch up on yardwork and household chores. Magda is always welcome to join us for family excursions and often does, but she also spends time with her friends.
